[CQ-Contest] Why?

Hi Larry.
Yes, tail-end calling is widely accepted if it's done correctly. But just a
few know when to fire their calls effectively using this technique.
I believe Tom N4KG is the best tail-end caller ever. Good tail-end callers
can really add some more Qs to the hour totals.
But as you said. It's pretty risky to accept tail-end callers. I only do
that when running Stateside stations. If you nowadays do that when running
EUs the outcome will not be positive.
Compulsive non-stop callers are not smart tail-enders and they are
detrimental to everyone: to the DX station running and to those calling the
DX.
If everybody was clever enough to try clever things the DX will be able to
work more stations faster.
In my case I tend to pick stations with lower signals first, even if I have
a full call from a stronger caller, I will privilege the weaker one. That,
sometimes hurt the rate a bit, but not too much. Some other times, the
weaker station in the pile is a new multiplier calling from a direction
different to the one I'm aiming at.
In the case of the DL8 vs the DK5. The DL8 was 20 dB over S9, the DK5 was
S3. It was the first time something like that happened to me. I cannot
figure out why he thought I was wrongly copying his callsign. DK5 is
totally different thant DL8 and not to mention if I include the suffixes of
these two stations.

Contest organizers should also request entrants to observe the DX code of
conduct...
