My CM-500 works and sounds fine with my FTdx-5000.  The cloth ear pad covers
from my Heil ProSet Plus fit perfectly.  I got a new pair for the CM-500 and
figure the ear pieces are not likely to deteriorate.

Also, the CM-500's I used to use back when I had my K3s, only lasted a few
   years  before  the  vinyl  on  the  ear  pieces  deteriorated.   Being
   non-replaceable, it meant I had to toss them.
