I completely disagree that the contesting community should "prop up" a
failing business just to sponsor great contests. Its far more efficient to
just take over the contest. What does it need?
- Rules and enforcement - the WWOF has already started this and can take it
over completely
- Managing Directors - These people already exist and their time needs to be
compensated. So increased donations to WWOF could be called upon to do so
but to a tune far less than propping up a failing business and other revenue
opportunities exist.
- A web site for scores, results, and announcements. Randy and company have
already done a fabulous job doing this. Add some advertising on those sites
with the money going directly to the Director and other costs and there is
your revenue stream.
- Award fulfilment of plaques and certificates. This can be done in
conjunction or independently. I have already made the offer to some contest
sponsors and will make it publicly here. I would be happy to take over the
job and execution of award fulfilment. I have sources for all the materials
and it seems self funded to me.
Why prop up a failing magazine? Just put much less funds directed at the
contests and attract the audience and advertisers to the web sites and
deliver pdf results and published scores. All the pieces are there.
If the contest directors are willing, its pretty straightforward to do. If
they are not, it would be great for the contest community to hear why.
