Just to update from my pre-WPX report...
The RBN's AR Cluster V6 server failed repeatedly in the early hours of
WPX, so we made a decision to pull it and replace it with the Linux
relay server. That is the configuration we are currently running -
VE7CC's Windows relay server, on the now-misnamed
arcluster.reversebeacon.net, port 7000, and PY1NB/KM3T's Linux relay
server on telnet.reversebeacon.net, port 7000. Both of these performed
well throughout WPX, as did the other Linux relay on
relay2.reversebeacon.net, port 7000.
The only downside, for those end-users who have been connecting directly
to our nodes, is that you are not able to set up filters or issue other
user commands (sh/dx, etc.). The solution is to find and use a "retail"
server that you like. http://www.dxcluster.info is a good source,
arranged by node software and with notes for those that carry RBN
spots. There are a lot of them, and of course, with Telnet, geography
is really not an issue
At some time before long, we will be reconfiguring the DNS and renaming
these servers, but for the moment, they retain their old names.
We're still looking for additional RBN contributors in Africa and Latin
America. If you're interested, please drop me a note.
