Hans:

I would of course agree with that ..but will add one thing. When I was in college ..I worked at a ship to shore station (Amagansett Radio/WSL) doing CW and SITOR. The Amateur ops in general were vastly superior to the commercial ones. No idea why.

For 21 years I was a Navy Radioman, rising to Master Chief Radioman. That was professional communications. For 22 years after that I worked in the communications industry designing professional communications equipment.

What I've done for 50 years "off duty" with my toy radios is indeed amateurish in any comparison.

I always point out to people who ask me about "amateur" radio; The

"amateur" connotation refers only to the fact that we may accept no

remuneration for the activities we perform under our FCC licenses. That

"amateur" connotation however, makes us no less "professional" as we are or

we wish to achieve in any of the numerous aspects of our hobby. There is

nothing "amateurish" in the amateur radio activities I am pursuing.

"Professional" contesters in "amateur" radio seems to be an oxymoron.

None of us should take ourselves too seriously.
