ALLRIGHT!!!! [***High Five***]

This is truly the spirit of field day; it is an effort to accomplish things in an unconventional way; and it ought to be great fun!

Take lots of pictures and write an article! Plaster the article all over the internet! Do a stand-up presentation at Dayton next spring.

Well, I won't be doing SO2R, but I am doing something "on the edge". FD is a great time to show people new things.

At our field day, K1BKE (K1B this year), we will be running 4A in NH. I'll be doing 40 CW.

However, I'll additionally be running 1A as VY1AAA -- via remote.. J has a 6KW generator, and we will have temp antennas in Whitehorse, NT... but I'll be controlling all that from the FD site in NH, via 4G LTE.

Is this ham radio? Absolutely. Does it have a practical application? Absolutely. Imagine a situation where there is a natural disaster. Somewhere close to the scene, there is some method of internet access. An EMCOM op could remote into a large station anywhere and provide WorldWide communications for the effort. Over a very small internet link (which could be an HSMM mesh network for part of the run).

Besides the practical application, it will give other ops the opportunity to experience operating from the far north.

See ya in FD!

How about, in this-contest-which-looks-like-a-contest-but-isn't-a-contest, we set up a new space called "Rogues Corner" where Amateur Radio guys (remember them) could try wild and crazy crap that would get them a lifetime DQ in the Professional Contesting Circuit?

The rule as quoted does specifically refer to two operators using two transmitters, so it does not rule out SO2R.

Besides, if all someone is interested in is getting on and operating, the only rules that matter are the laws of that person's country. The presence of any operating event, be it Field Day or WW, only imposes rules upon those who enter by submitting logs.

And since the results of Field Day depend on more than maximizing QSOs (you get points for publicity, for satellite contacts, for operating a GOTA station, for copying the special FD bulletin, etc.), it really is just about operating, promoting ham radio and fostering goodwill.

Perhaps we could get back to the "goodwill" part?
