[CQ-Contest] Your DX Spots during the ARRL SSB DX Contest

I can't speak for anyone else on this Steve, but as a very little pistol running 100 Watts to verticals, trying to maintain a run frequency can be... challenging.

If the band opens and a few stations start calling, sooner or later (usually sooner) someone pops up an "out muscles" me to take over the frequency. Sometimes it's one of the DX -- calls me, then calls CQ after the contact is completed; sometimes it's someone in North America whom I may not always hear.

[ For the record... This is an observation, not a complaint. ]

So I simply don't bother any longer. I just do near 100% S&P. Much less aggravation, even if my total score is way down from what I could do with a decent run or two.

BTW, thanks for the mult on 20 yesterday. Sorry it was the only band I heard you on!

The other thing I'll add ....being DX for this contest is ...that relatively
few US/Canada stations were running ....period. I operated assisted ...but
also did extensive tuning .....and out of 1900 plus Qs ..only 50 or so were
S&P.

Based on my experience this weekend, I've got to question whether more than
a handful of assisted European operators even tune the bands, rather than
just click on spots. Not sure if assisted American operators were any
different.
