[CQ-Contest] Holding back your score?

What's the purpose of posting claimed scores to the 3830 reflector? I 
doubt it very much the intention was to generate a wave of 'conspiracy 
theories' after each major contest, as it seems to do.

What about those that don't post them at all? Are they being dishonest? 
I suspect that in the current 'high alert environment' we live in, some 
would say yes.
