[CQ-Contest] Online Scoreboards

I understand these arguments but personally do enjoy the online scoreboard.

There is one guy in PA who always beats me and who runs the online score
board which I appreciate. It's fun to keep an eye on our two scores as the
contest progresses because it tells me how far the lead horse in the race
is. That adds another aspect of enjoyment to the contest for me although
due to my QTH disadvantage and his superior skill/experience I almost never
see my call listed higher than his on the board. Some would say that I
merely enjoy torturing myself knowing I can't win and the scoreboard is a
constant reminder of that fact. ha ha.

I don't think that there is any practical way to regulate sufficiently to
prohibit those who are wanting to cheat, at least with any real efficiency.
Whatever limitations are officially imposed, there are going to be guys who
are going to find ways around that. Some techniques would be called
outright cheating by others - and other questionable methods that can be
argued as exploiting the holes in the rules. Can't say I can think of a
time where the scoreboard prompted me to do something I was otherwise not
doing. The "joy" of living in the black hole here is that whatever is
working for a leader on the coast has little correlation to what's happening
locally as witnessed by the Feb RTTY NAQP where the coasts can work each
other on the high bands and here in KS 10/15 are almost always dead save for
some top-of-the-cycle times.

So it's just like the DXCC assists from buddies enjoy with the help of some
guys via telephone or chat or whatever. At the end of the day, when you
look at your accomplishments, you know personally exactly what you did (or
did not) do to achieve it. And the extent one fellow will go to get the
Q/mult/score/etc will vary with the next fellow.

There have been a couple of times in the last cycle where I managed to
collect a win of one category or another but those are the rare exception.
And I suppose if I were a top contender for the national win every year
maybe I would be more upset about some other guy being able to get some
under-table assistance one way or another so maybe I can't appreciate what
the big boys feel. The bottom line from my perspective is that the online
scoring adds to the enjoyment of the sport and it's not diminished by
knowing that some of the contenders are exploiting some advantage or
another. I'm sure the guys motivated to cheat will find plenty of ways to
cheat if they want and the presence or the absence of the online scoreboard
is not going to affect that at all. A guy who wants to cheat will. So why
worry about it? Just focus on doing my best, trying to enjoy the activity
to the maximum I can, and see what the box scores end up when they are
eventually posted.

FRC has done this for years in the club chat room during a test, however, if
you are single op there is the danger of the "inadvertent " passing of
information from non single op stations.

So many that it won't make any difference since "everyone does it" no one
will care. Right? That is the entire idea of making that feature. So much
for ethics..... have fun guys.

Make this a great day
