[CQ-Contest] 2022 WRTC Thoughts

Don’t forget the five or more ARRL CW SOABLP stations that scored higher... I know it’s not the same but those ops had it harder not using assistance.
I like using assistance and non-assisted... when I do something assisted I do pay homage to those who bested me without it as my assisted score is truly like a subdivision of the same power non-assisted stations. Those who score less in the non-assisted category can’t really know how much the assistance did or didn’t help the assisted station versus non-assisted.. but those who scored hirer truly beat me if assisted.
It’s like using an optic on your pistol in production and scoring less than a guy with iron sights... different for the final results but still easier with an optic in that area if using the same stages in the same competition.

Case in point - I entered LP categories this year for ARRL DX because I had
no amp. Instead of 2nd place in the division and a low top 10 finish, I
placed 1st in ARRL DX SSB (#2 world) and #10 in CW for W/VE. HP I would
have likely been beaten out by remotes (and others) who have stacks and
better locations.

Yes, low power is painful. But a win is a win. Would I do it again? As much
as there is the allure of putting another plaque on the wall I would
probably opt for HP as I like rate and constant running. Even if I get
beaten, I had fun.

Most low power entries are low power AND compromise antennas. In contrast,
someone with a good antenna setup and a serious contester is likely to have
an amp and likes to push their station’s limits.
