I like the idea of moving the start time up to some time that is still fair enough for west coasters. That would be a low impact change, doesn't impact traditional scores in any major way, etc.


Give that a chance, along with contest community outreach to drive more participation, see if the trend reverses. If after year or two it doesn't, try some of the more radical changes.
