This definitely not true for the Phone SS.


I worked over 350 stations with a check of 2010 or later in the latest  Phone SS.  Almost 50 of these were a CK of 17.


For CW, the answer is easy.  Most of the 2010 to present simply do not know the code and almost all can not copy 20+ required for SS.  Couple this with the long exchange, and it explains the low newbie numbers on SS CW.  Out of 950 contacts in the SS CW, I had 20 with a CK of 2010 or later and only one with a CK of 17.  Double this number to compare it to the SSB numbers and you'll see what I mean.


No code licenses are an death knell for SS CW.

Do we know why there are fewer new contesters doing the SS than other
contests? Maybe the long exchange?  Any other things turning off new
licensees from this contest?
