Art  - that is a good reminder to the growing number of folks operating remotely. Chopping the leading character often happens due to the keying method and the added delays of the key closure reaching the remote xmitter.  Often have to thing of remote operating as the same as using a slow to switch amp.
When you operate remotely you can usually listen to yourself pretty easily and the various ways of operating remotely usually offer keying delay parameters in addition to what xcvrs have. Usually only takes a few added milliseconds to overcome the problem.
