WB9Z and K9CT are the big stations in that area. WB9Z is about 70-80 
miles S of Chicago, K9CT about twice that distance (near Peoria).  As 
far as I know, the stations near Chicago are mostly designed for 
single-ops (who might want a guest to make it a multi-one). As with big 
cities around the world, the limitation is space for serious antennas 
and RF noise.
