True. Two of my favorite DX contacts weren't DXCC entities at all:

KG1DT on Fletcher's Ice Island (T3) in the Arctic in 1959.  Look it up.

UPOL12, a Soviet military/scientific expedition to the North Pole in 1963. Not sure that was a legal amateur call, but who's counting?

Still, for the most part I've chased DXCC entities over the years.

All good points, but

There's a difference between DXing and chasing DXCC entities. Too many DXCC
entities are artificial constructs to keep the elite donors appeased -- see
Pratas Island, Scarborough Reef.

In the past two years I have made four JA contacts from Florida, with 100
watts on CW and a wire in a tree -- ON 80 METERS. To me, that's DXing.
