Since pileups are mostly* the responsibility of the runner, if you are not
good at it (and/or don't have a commanding or at least GOOD signal into your
target area ) and have the experience and/or wherewithal to run one, then it
(should be) incumbent upon you to do mostly S&P.

That being said, we all started somewhere, so how to get experience without
running?

SS is probably the worst contest for a rare multiplier neophyte/budding
contester to hone their pileup management skills in.

Much better to practice those skills in other contests where you won't be
super rare.

YMMV

Mike VE9AA *notice I said mostly. Sometimes you cannot control the idiots
who call incessantly, however you can choose to ignore them.

VY1CQ was on sunday evening on 40. The pileup was a *mess.*

It would be nice if the guys who operate from VE8 or VY1 would just go
around

and call stations. Since VY1AAA and VY1JA are gone we are left with stations

that aren't really seasoned contesters. They seem to get flustered pretty

easily. They would probably have a much better rate doing S&P.Jeff KU8E
