You are kidding, right? Or do you really want operators to flood the spotting network and make it useless? Is that the point?
IMHO, not that anyone ever asks me anything, just because something is permitted doesn't make it right. Self-spotting in a contest is just that.

Subject: [CQ-Contest] ARRL DX SSB Contest - Self-spotting is allowed in ALL entry categories, including UNASSISTED
Recent changes to ARRL Contest rules allow self-spotting in all
categories, including Unassisted Categories.

Only Assisted Classes may USE spotting info to find QSO's, but ANYBODY
can GENERATE spots, including self-spots.
It seems logical to me that everyone should spot themselves regularly,
like maybe every 10 minutes or so. Maybe rare DX stations would not
want to spot themselves and get inundated with callers, but almost
anybody else should welcome the increased rate.
It would also be great if everyone spotted every S&P QSO they made. SSB
could then approach equality with CW and RTTY, where automatic Skimmers
generate tons of spots all weekend long. Some logging programs already
have the capability to automatically generate self spots and Search &
Pounce spots.
Assisted ops will have to focus on filtering which spots they want to
see, but the good ops know how to do this already. For example, US/VE
ops will not want to see US/VE spots, and DX ops will not want to see
non-US/VE spots.
The more spots, the better. It should be a lot of fun!
