One year, back in the 1980s, I remember WB6SHD decided to come to Dayton at
the last minute.  He strolled up to the desk on Thursday or Friday at
whatever the DX/Contest hotel was then and told them he needed a room for
the weekend.  "Are you with the radio group" he was asked, and he replied
"no".  His room was about 25% less than the "special rate" the rest of us
had gotten for booking in advance.
