This reflector has been pretty quiet with regard to this year's WRTC,
notwithstanding all the competitors, referees, volunteers, and visitors on
here. Maybe everyone is too busy packing for the trip. Here's some info
for everyone else and may turn on their radio during the IARU Championship.
*WRTC Countdown Is On*
WRTC2022 -- delayed a year by Covid, dealing with a live war to the East,
and wracked by floods last month -- nevertheless is coming to your radio at
1200 Z July 8 to 1200Z July 9. (It overlays the IARU Championship.) A
sub-contest for WRTC "hunters" with awards for non-WRTC competitors was
just announced. See the rules at the link below.
· In a first, all competing stations will be spotted automatically by the
organizers, SSB as well as CW, so it should be relatively easy to find the
special stations.
· Logs and all sorts of real-time information will be available on the
website in almost real time.
· Etiquette: no competitor is allowed to say anything that may
identify themselves. I strongly suggest that you DO NOT greet by name or
show recognition even if you recognize a voice on SSB. Doing so robs
the competitor of seconds when seconds count, and the competitors are
prohibited from acknowledging you in any fashion. Just a quick “5908” is
the best response. Note that a referee is present and listening at all
times, as well as recordings being made for later checking. The operators
will have unique callsigns and are supposed to remain anonymous until
identified on the website shortly after the contest.
· Finally, WRTC requests that you PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR LOG IMMEDIATELY
to ARRL for the IARU Championship. A link for this purpose is on the WRTC
webpage. WRTC log checking commences immediately after the contest and the
results are announced the next evening (afternoon on East Coast USA), so
your log is needed ASAP for cross-checking. The judging committee will
have access to logs submitted through the normal ARRL process. Your
log will be used for checking the competitors’ logs. Your own log checks
will be done by ARRL for the IARU Championship using their normal process.
· View the WRTC2022 website for award rules and categories,
announcements about live streams, everything I got wrong in this email, and
all other information as it becomes available: https://tinyurl.com/yhvjx6zv.
