Greetings to all - welcome to September and the beginning of fall HF
conditions! I am looking forward to having some solar flux during the
coming contest season.
I encourage all the CW operators out there to give the North American CW
Sprint contest a try - four hours of 20, 40, and 80 meter fun on Saturday
evening in North America. The action is fast and furious, starting around
20-25 kHz above the band edge.
If you are new to sprinting, why not read Jim George, N3BB's article posted
on the NCJ NA Sprint website at
ncjweb.com/sprint-scores/CW-Sprinting-N3BB.pdf. If the full-speed
operators are a bit much, just tune up to 50 kHz from the band edge and
call CQ NA at a speed you're comfortable in receiving. Don't forget to
move at least 5 kHz after someone answers your CQ before calling CQ again.
Casual entrants should give both calls, a serial number, name, and
state/province/country prefix for the exchange. Part-time operators will
find the last 90 minutes on 40 and 80 to be a lot of fun. Non-NA stations
send DX instead of a prefix - we're always glad to see you in the log!
For those of you who are regular Sprinters, encourage your contest club
members to get on and give it a try. Teams of five can be registered on
the Sprint website any time until the contest starts. Speaking of
teams...there were a lot of teams active in last weekend's CW Open
contests...why not go for two and sign up for Sprint, as well?
The Alabama QSO Party will be active during the Sprint, too. (
https://alabamacontestgroup.org/aqp/) QSOs with those stations count for
Sprint if a name and serial number are received. Remember that those
stations do NOT have to follow the Sprint QSY rule, so don't take over the
frequency after the QSO - tune to another frequency and keep going.
Results will be processed as quickly as possible - it is a Sprint, after
all - and preliminary results posted quickly after the log deadline, 7 days
after the contest on Sep 17th. Full and complete results will be posted a
couple of weeks later. We would love to hear your personal stories and
publish some photos so be sure to send some comments with your log and send
photos to cwsprintmgr at ncjweb.com.
Thanks and see you on the bands this Saturday night!
