[CQ-Contest] Most cost-effective sending of qsl's

What are people doing with emailed QSL cards?   Are emailed and home printed
QSL's even valid for awards?  I have been receiving more and more of these,
a few have been from QSO's that occurred a decade ago. Some emailed QSL's
are from DX stations so I guess they could be respond to using the bureau
but most are coming from the U.S.
