As Drew has noted, FCC requirements for NOISE is most stringent for 
Residential stuff, like about 20 dB.

The quietest power supplies are LINEAR. The Astrons I recommend are 
LINEAR. There are issues even with those, but they are easy to fix. In 
addition to audio distortion, the defect can cause instability 
(oscillation).

How much noise we hear from ANY source will depend proximity to the 
antennas connected to our receiver, where they are pointed, the 
frequency content of the noise, and how effective the wires connected to 
that source are as antennas. We can reduce their effectiveness by 
winding turns through Fair-Rite #31 ferrite cores.
