POLL command

What does it mean, now that the POLL command has been removed ?

Does my radio automatically get polled every N seconds ?
Does my radio never get polled ?

I found that polling caused nothing but trouble with my TS-940.  During the
interval that CT was polling my 940 (approx 500 msec), my 940 tuning would
"lock up" - kind of like the "backlash" effect you can get on old receivers
that used a cable or cord between the tuning dial and tuning capacitor.
Since there was no way to turn the polling off, I set it to the maximimum -
255 seconds (if I recall correctly).  That way, the lockup was rarer.
