Hi:

Sorry for consuming CT reflector bandwith with this, but I continue to get
requests for an update:

Back in March 1998, I originally proposed the idea on this reflector for the
use of
application programming interfaces standards for amateur radio use. See
http://www.contesting.com/_ct-user/9803/0084.html. I have expanded this idea
a bit and the January/February 1999 issue of ARRL's QEX magazine contains a
short article outlining the concept.

In short, the approach is to remove the radio and other computer controlled
ham radio equipment dependencies from the application software, such as CT.
The application software would then call the standard API. API libraries
would be written to support the particular equipment....see the article for
more info.

I am presently implementing a sample implementation for rig control for a
TS-850 using a Windows .dll file. My goal is to make this implementiation
portable to Linux. I will publish the source code in the public domain when
it is completed.

I hope that this approach will be adopted by software developers such as
Ken. The idea does need comment and more discussion before it can be
developed further.
