When you mention DX4WIN, I infer that you were running Windows 95?, on your old 486. To run PURE DOS as Brian mentioned, you must reboot and select DOS Only - that leaves you with a command prompt only. Is that what you're doing?
   Or are you running CT in a DOS window???

I made the same mistake getting a keying line on COM3. I used LogEQF, a very well behaved DOS program, which I almost always use in a DOS window. When I finally put a volt meter on the DTR line there was no activity. I then tried a windows program, TRX-Manager, and it works fine.

1  Boot directly to DOS

2  Eliminate the rig question by putting a voltmeter on the keying line from LPT1.

3  I recall that CT will also work with DTR on a COM port. And you may be able to use DTR for CT even if the data lines of the COM port are used for something else. (Plan B - hi hi)
