FIELD DAY 2002
As previously mentioned we are having the North Georgia ARC FD at the
Orchard at Jay Bridge again this year signing W4QQ. Directions below.

Special Notice: Anyone who'd like to volunteer to go out with me one
day this week to do some weedeating around the operating area while I
mow the grass would be greatly appreciated. Call K4SZ at 7060864-6229.

We will operate Class 3A with two mainly CW stations this year. One is
courtesy of Neal K4EA and Johnny K4TW who operated with us last year and

ran our point total so high!! The other mainly CW station will be
provided by Dan W4EA and Paul W6XA. Both groups are planning to come
out Friday evening to camp out and start setting up along with some
other club members like K4SZ and maybe Ivan and Diana will bring their
camper too. Come join us then if you want.

The other 3A station will be mainly for SSB for the rest of us and I
will supply my 1000MP for that station. Of course, anyone wanting to
spell the CW guys is welcome to jump in and help. We will have a
combination of beams, long wires and verticals for the HF stations. We
will also have a 6m station like we always do and will use a Yaesu FT920

for that one along with a 5 el CC beam on a push-up pole like we set up
last year. A new possibility this year is a GOTA Station (or if we let
Lawson operate, a GOAT station!!) for new or inactive hams. This
category replaces the old novice station that many of you may remember
we have had in the past. This station will use whatever HF band and
antenna the 3A transmitters aren't using so it should work out quite
well. The GOTA station will use an Icom IC736 HF rig at 100W and the
call sign W4SDR. All the stations will have laptop computers for
logging and dupe checking and they will all be networked together except

for the GOTA station that has to remain separate anyway.

We've had a lot of folks asking about coming out and we can handle all
that will come and everyone who wants to operate will be able to. There

will be plenty of help available for operating. Of course, you can just

come and watch if you want. We had several in that category last year,
but we expect they'll want to operate now. Please come out Saturday
morning and help us set up the antennas and equipment also. It will be
especially instructive for new hams to come see what to do to set up
stations and antennas.

Food: We will leave it up to each person coming to bring whatever food
and drinks they want. We will have a Gas grill and a two burner gas
stove along with a coffee maker and a large water jug available so bring

whatever you want to eat whether it's hot dogs, hamburgers, steaks, etc
or just cold cut sandwiches. You should be able to put your stuff in
one of our coolers if you need to and probably can bum some ice also if
that will help any of you out with your planning. Hopefully, someone
will come out to visit early Sunday morning and bring us biscuits from
one the the fast food places so we won't have to cook breakfast, but
we'll have a frying pan for the stove in any case. It is nice to cook
breakfast after camping out overnight!!

Come and camp out, eat and operate with us.
We will try to listen on the 146.835+ T100 and 443.100+ T100 repeaters
for folks coming out if they need further directions than we have below
and also so you can bring us anything if we need it, like food or
something!!

Directions: (Paved road all the way to the last left into the Orchard)
>From the end of Highway 400 take highway 60 into Dahlonega. At the
(first) traffic light, Highway 60 and the Dahlonega bypass (Morrison
Moore Parkway) at KFC turn left to take Hwy 9 and 52 W. Make this mile
0 for the trip. Go through the next light (less than 1 mile) continuing

on 9 and 52W, past buckhorn Grocery and at 3.8 miles turn right on
Siloam Church Road. You will see signs directing you to Siloam Baptist
Church and the Etowah River Campground. At 5.8 miles you turn left on
Rider Mill Road (also with a sign to Etowah River campground). Go past
the campground entrance (which is at 6.2 miles) continuing on Rider
Mill. When you get to the fork in the road with no signs (or Stop
signs! watch out!) go left. This will be at 6.7 miles. This is now Jay

Bridge Road. About .7 mile of fields on the left and all woods on the
right, you'll finally see a field on the right and the entrance LEFT
into the orchard. This should be 7.4 miles from KFC. I'll mark the
post with a W4QQ sign. Watch out for the small Pecan trees marked with
Orange tape when you are driving in. You should be able to see us, pull

in and park.

Additional directions if coming from hiway 19N out of Dahlonega: Take
Oak Grove road till it ends at Siloam Road. Go straight on Jay Bridge
Road and over the hump after Bryant road take the right fork which is
Jay Bridge Road but no signs there. Then follow above directions from
the fork to the orchard. If you get to Jay bridge, you've gone too
far. Come back to the first place you can turn right into the field
about a half mile back from the bridge. You should be able to see us in

the field at the end of the orchard.

Coming from Dawsonville on Hwy 9, Siloam Church Road is the next left
after Hwy 52 merges with 9, then follow the above directions on Siloam
Church Road.

PS: the more adventurous can bring river shoes and cut offs and go cool
off in the nice warm water of the Etowah River which is only a few feet
down the bank from the operating site.

Call me if you have any questions. Bob K4SZ 706-864-6229
