[Fourlanders] Fourlanders September Contest

June is behind us now and the time has come to start thinking and talking
about the contest in September.  I have already been talking to several of
you individually and I want to write an email to everyone pulling it all
together.

First, the dates of the contest are September 11th and 12th.  Mark it on
your calendar.  I need for someone to call Mile High Campground and lock
those dates in (and Friday the 10th).  I think we gave them tentative dates
while we were there in June but I am not sure if we gave them the correct
dates or if we are locked in for those dates.  In the past, I believe Robin
has handled that duty.  Can you handle that for us again Robin and let the
group know if Mile High Campground is OK with those dates?  Reserve the same
days and spaces that we had in June.

It is my understanding that we will be short at least one and possibly two
band captains.  I know for sure that Dick, K5AND will not be on the mountain
in September to handle 144 MHz.  I was also told that Brian, NX9O would not
be there to handle 222 MHz and the computer networking.  I have since been
told that Brian may be there after all.  Can you bring us up to date on that
Brian?  Bob, K4SZ has said that he will takeover 144 MHz in Dicks absence
but that will leave us with no microwave band captain.  I am looking for
some volunteers to help with the band captain duties.  At a minimum I would
like to see someone step in and be Brian's backup on 222 MHz.  If someone
would like to step in and volunteer to do 144 MHz thus freeing Bob to do
microwaves that would be even better.  If someone has the gear and wants to
do microwaves I don't think Bob would complain about that either (actually I
think he would thank you from the bottom of his heart).  If we don't get
enough band captains to cover everything we will have to do a limited multi
and forget microwaves all together or maybe even drop another band like 222
MHz.  Let me know if you can help.

Finally, we will have our next official Fourlanders meeting at the hamfest
in Shelby, NC on Saturday, September 4th.  I don't have a time or location
yet.  Usually at least one of us has a couple of spaces in the fleamarket
and we just meet there.  Is anyone planning to have some spaces in the
fleamarket this year?  This will be Saturday before the September contest so
the main and probably only business will be plans for the contest.  Everyone
mark this on your calendar and I will let you know the particulars when I
figure them out.
