SVHFS/FourLanders Dayton 2005 Report

A little late, but I'm getting caught up with lots of backlog here.

A group of SVHFS/FourLanders members traveled to Dayton for the 2005
Hamvention. Thanks to the efforts of Dick Hanson K5AND, the 'VHF City'
became a reality and a good number of VHFers shared the adjacent
spaces. Brian NX9O brought his cargo trailer to be the SVHFS/4L HQ
location this year and it worked out quite well with the two tents we
had. We sold SVHFS proceedings, FourLanders excess equipment and some
of our personal items that we brought. The most popular item of all
however, was the attention gotten by the massive bumper on the front of
the NX9O Dodge PickUp. If we'd had a topless dancer hawking our for
sale items, I don't think she could have outdrawn the impressive
bumper. Too bad we weren't selling those!!

Sharing the VHF City spaces were C3I Antennas with Owen K3CB and
friends, Charles Byers K3IWK Chassis and Antenna kits, Tom Whitted
WA8WZG and son, IDC Technology and a large group from Nashville with
Robin K4IDC and Fred N4GER among others, SVHFS/4L represented by Brian
NX9O, Anna N9KHC and third harmonic Elise, Bob K4SZ, Jim W4KXY and Dick
K5AND. We really enjoyed visiting with all the folks who stopped to
shop or say hello. Thanks to those who purchased SVHFS proceedings at
the hamvention.

Thursday evening found a group of about 40 enjoying the food and drink
at the Shuckin' Shack hosted by Dick K5AND. We enjoyed the time
together talking VHF radio of course and the companionship. Thanks to
Dick for his generous hospitality at the affair. We look forward to
next years annual get-together.

Friday evening we attended the Weak-Signal Banquet hosted by Tom WA8WZG
and Tony WA8RJF. A fine meal, program and door prizes were again
enjoyed by all attending. The program was our own K5AND showing the
details of his 20 pound, legal-limit travel amp for 6m. Thanks to Tom
and Tony for doing the work necessary each year to put on this banquet
during the Dayton activities. I believe there was a full-house of
around 135 present enjoying the festivities.

73 and let's hope it all comes together as well next year. See you
then. Bob K4SZ
