[Fourlanders] Info about Fred Runkle, K4KAZ.

Julie and I visited Fred Saturday afternoon.  He was lucid and we talked for
a few minutes but he is very weak.  Pat said that the drs seem hopeful that
he will recover some and be able to go home.  Pat is doing as well as can be
expected under the circumstances.

Fred has been diagnosed with liver cancer.  He has had some surgery to help
with the liver function temporarily, but the tumor is inoperable. 
He has been in and out of the hospital at Northeast Georgia Medical Center
in Gainesville several times in the past few weeks.  An infection was one of
the problems that caused re-hospitalization.  Fred is 
currently in ICU at NGMC.   His wife Pat is there every day along with 
their son and daughter.  We have been by to visit a few times.  He is
usually groggy from all the medications and it is hard for him to try to
talk with a very dry mouth, but he knows we are there to visit and that our
thoughts are with him.  We are hoping for the best of course.

You can call the hospital and ask for the ICU waiting room to check with Pat
if you would like to visit.  There are only four half-hour visitation times
starting at 8, 11, 2PM and 5PM and only two people at a time can go in the
room.

Pat is checking the e-mail each evening and if you'd like to send a message
to his regular e-mail address runkle at charter.net, Pat will get the messages
to him each day.

I apologize for not getting this info out sooner to the reflectors. 
Fred is of course a long time VHFer and contester with the FourLanders and
one of the founders of SVHFS.  He did the NF testing at the conferences for
many years.

I will do my best to keep everyone updated on the situation.
