Time to make plans for the Annual Shelby VHF Cookout to be held on
Saturday evening after the flea market closes. This cookout was started
by Mike Wechsler N4OFA and continues to be promoted by Mike and Bob Lear
W4ZST as a good time gathering for our VHF weak signal friends at the
Shelby hamfest

When: Saturday, September 1 Sixish
Where: Wherever the Fourlanders end up in the flea market area. YOu
have a couple of days to find us. We'll have our banner out.

This years cookout in memory of our grillmaster for the past several
years Fred Runkle K4KAZ who passed away in December 2006.

We usually have strip or ribeye steaks, baked potatoes, corn on the cob
and associated fixins'. Bring your own drinks of choice.

Bob W4ZST is volunteering to purchase and bring the steaks from our
usual source in Dahlonega GA and you all remember how good they have
been. Usual steak is 12 ounces and will probably be about $8 each. I
will bring as many as you respond to order and you pay me back at the
cookout. Of course, you can also bring your own steak and join the fun.
I will also bring the corn on the cob from a local produce store that
has been our source in the past also. I will bring the corn cooking pot
and propane stand burner and tank.

Now, we need volunteers to bring charcoal or gas grills (we need two),
baked potatoes and a box of aluminum foil, butter, sour cream, steak
sauce, paper plates, plastic utensils, some real steak knives, etc.
We'll get a count on the potatoes needed by Tuesday 8/28.
Also wouldn't hurt if we had some extra folding tables and chairs too.
If someone want to do something for dessert we'd appreciate that too.

So, you are invited to join us and bring your VHF friends and family
along.

Please contact Bob W4ZST (ex K4SZ) at
w4zst at windstream.net or k4sz at alltel.net
by Tuesday August 28, letting me know you (or how many in your group)
are going to join us and your choice (and how many for a group) of strip
or ribeye steaks. We will count one baked potato and one ear of corn
per person, but will also have some extra for the stragglers or hearty
eaters. If you want to bring your own steak just let me know so we can
count the corn and taters.

We look forward to visiting with you at the Shelby hamfest, talking some
VHF/UHF/microwave with you and sitting down to another great steak
cookout with good friends and companions.

Volunteers contact me about the grills, taters and condiments, etc.

73, Bob W4ZST (and on the other end of the radio connection, Mike N4OFA)
