[Fourlanders] FW: June Contest Question Reference Rule 3.3.7

Here is KX9X response. As I thought, we can not beacon our call sign and
location during the contest. If you want to do it before the contest then
that is OK. So, the focus should be on how we get the APRS data for the
rovers not the other way around.

Hiya Jim-

I agree with your interpretation. The rule, as worded, clearly states the
multi-op station may merely access rover APRS data. It doesn't state that
"Multi-ops may use APRS," it states that ROVERS may use it.

Hope you are well! I'm dying for some VHF prop up here.

Hello Sean. Sorry to bother you with this but a multi-op station asked me a
question and I want to make 100% sure that I give them the correct answer.
Their question is, does this rule:

3.3.7. Rovers are permitted to use APRS. Rovers using APRS transmit only
their call sign and position. Any multi-op station may access rover APRS
data directly or via the Internet.

allow the multi-op station to beacon it's call sign and location via APRS?
It is my belief that it does not and that doing so during the contest would
be considered self spotting by the multi-op. This rule was put in place
just to allow rovers to beacon their call sign and location. Being one of
the authors of the rule I am fairly certain of my interpretation but as I
always tell folks, you are the final word. So, what do you say?
