Hurricane Gustav restoration efforts: AT&T delivers

Fellow Employees,

As we head into the weekend, with the threat of additional storms off the
East Coast, more than 2,500 of our technicians and engineers - wireline and
wireless - are hard at work in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Texas,
assessing damage from Hurricane Gustav and restoring connectivity for our
customers. Most of our team members are working in the hardest-hit areas of
Louisiana - completing restoration of cell sites, remote terminals, cable
and central offices.

Our networks are performing well - particularly given the significant
increase in wireless, voice and texting traffic we've seen into and out of
the area. In situations where our networks did sustain damage, our network
operations center groups have done a superb job re-routing traffic and
coordinating with local field teams to make repairs quickly.

Commercial power outages persist in many areas - but that is not stopping
our progress. We're currently going through about 85,000 gallons of diesel
fuel a day to run more than 1,500 generators powering wireless cell sites,
central offices, remote terminals and work centers.

And while our crews work through the weekend restoring service, hundreds of
other employees are preparing for a potential strike by Tropical Storm Hanna
or Hurricane Ike. Just as we did ahead of Gustav, we're staging equipment,
testing backup batteries and topping off fuel for generators.

Our restoration efforts have been a terrific One AT&T team effort and I
greatly appreciate all everyone is doing. Times likes these underscore how
vitally important connectivity and AT&T are to our customers and
communities. They count on us, and as we've shown this week, we deliver.

Thanks for all you do.
