Kim,
I have watched their scores over the last 3 or 4 years in the Sept.
contest. I focus on the Sept. contest because it is usually influenced
less by regional Sporadic "E" openings, tropo ducting, aurora, etc.
What I see is they consistently score 200 or more Qs over what we
harvest, and out pace our grid count by about the same percentage
consistently.
While some of this may be attributed to additional weapons they could
using such as WJST or EME, I can't believe those modes make up such a
consistent difference in our 2 scores.
What I have noticed is their operating location is a bit higher and NE
of us, and still somewhat on the southern side of the Appalachian
Mountains like us. But they are close to the Virginia border and closer
to the northeastern decent of the mountains.
I conclude they have a clearer shot down across the Virginia valley
directly into the Baltimore, Philly, Washington, and New York population
areas. You can really start to see this when you look at Google Earth.

Just saw where the results and all were available, so I checked it out.
What I scratch my head about... is AA4ZZ. 230 more QSO's. 34 more
grids.
What were they hearing that we weren't?
Just curious!
