[Fourlanders] W1GHZ transverter kit group buy

Just an FYI for everyone. I am putting my order together as I write this.
I talked to Bob, W4ZST some more and he convinced me to get enough stuff for
4 bands (902/903, 1296, 2304 and 3456). After reading all of the stuff on
the W1GHZ website here is what I believe that you will need for each band:

902/903 requires the 900 MHz transverter parts kit and board as well as the
756LO parts kit and board.

1296 requires the 1296RSU transverter parts kit and board as well as the
1156LO parts kit and board.

2304 requires the 2304 transverter parts kit and board as well as the 720LO
parts kit and board.

3456 Requires the 3456 transverter parts kit and board. If you are also
building a 2304 transverter you can share the 720LO but if not you will need
the 720LO parts kit and board.

Each transverter will also require the RF relay board and parts kit unless
you already have some suitable microwave capable RF relays available. FYI
the relay parts kit DOES NOT include the board. I asked W8ISS and he just
forgot to include the relay board on the initial order form. Again you will
need to order a relay board AND parts kit for each transverter.

I hope that this helps everyone out and don't forget the deadline for
getting the order in W8ISS hands is November 7th so I would get the order
out this coming week.

I have looked over the info on these kits, read the original W1GHZ
articles and other comments.

I think they are a pretty good idea for getting into microwave stuff on
the cheap. As he mentions, they will need external filters if in a high
RF environment and if they were to be used with amplifiers.

Altogether though they look like a good deal and a lot of fun to build.
You will need to supply some of the parts, especially the SMA
connectors and pipe caps, but that's how he's keeping the prices down.

Paul and others who questioned the LO schemes were right on with their
figuring. Just subtract 144 (or add if high side injection and backward
tuning) from the desired frequency and that gives you the LO frequency.
W1GHZ did a pretty neat trick to get these transverters together and use
simple and no-tune components.

Anyway, I say go for it. I am going to get a 3456 as I only have one of
those and it's nice to be able to have two to talk to each other and
make sure everything is working, which is more difficult with only one.

I also like his little relay board for RX/TX switching. That will come
in quite handy and I'll probably get several of those.

On the web site it did say that the parts kits DO NOT include the PCB so
for each band you want, order the transverter parts kit, transverter
board, appropriate LO parts kit, LO board and a relay kit. Apparently
the relay kit includes the board as it is not listed separately.

I'm looking forward to it too. Enjoy!

Bob
