I was at the Visalia International DX Convention this past weekend and there
was a surprising number of VHF related topics that was there.
- Mark Hooper, President of Force 12, just went on and on about the
K5AND BBQ during his new product presentation. Evidently all ham radio
technical and operational issues are discussed and solved at this BBQ.
- K6BV gave a fascinating talk on a 6M DXpedition to St. Andres and
the issues in putting that island on the air.
- Elecraft will be coming out with a 500W solid state amplifier
that will operate from HF-6M. It matches the K3 and is close in size to the
K3. It has a linear power supply so it may be a bit heavy for DXpeditions or
portable operation. They had non-functional units there. Should be ready by
2011.
- Elecraft also had a sharp pan-adapter that they were
demonstrating. This thing will detect signals to the noise floor. There is a
knob that you can use to tune to a signal of interest and then push it in to
instantly QSY to that signal. This is similar operation to the Flex Radios
but without using the mouse. Taking orders now and shipping later in the
year.
