[Fourlanders] Shelby Hamfest

If they don't change the date and we have to look at hotels in Greenville or 
something like that I will probably just pass on Shelby.  It isn't like me to 
miss it two years in a row but the hasle just isn't worth it for me and I 
suspect a lot of other folks will feel the same way.  We will just have to wait 
and see what the hamfest comittee does.

Yes, the Democratic convention is in Charlotte next year, and for some idiotic 
reason, opens on Monday.......... Labor Day !!

The convention runs from the 3rd (Mon) through the 6th (Thurs).

I just tested the Holiday Inn that Dar and I stay at......I checked to see if I 
could reserve a room on Fri and Sat. .....same results.......no rooms available 
on those dates.  


I seriously doubt that Shelby club will move the Hamfest since it is the "Grand 
Daddy of Hamfests, always on Labor Day weekend", as they brag so the motor home 
people can plan the 1 week of vacation prior to hamfest camped out on the 
grounds.

So, scoping out availability at hotels back down I-85 toward Greenville may 
become a spring project for us as hundreds of other Hamfest travelers will soon 
get some bad news from the rumor mill .........

Hello everyone.  I was talking to Bill Pence the other day and he informed me
that the Democratic National Convention will be starting in Charlotte the
weekend that the Shelby Hamfest is usually scheduled for.  That means that hotel
rooms will be hard to find and expensive that weekend.  The subject came up
because Bill had tried to make a reservation at the usual Hampton Inn we stay at
and they are booked up full that weekend already!  I checked the Shelby Hamfest
website and there isn't anything on it yet about the 2012 hamfest.  I hope that
they move it to another weekend myself but we will have to wait and see.  I just
wanted everyone to be informed.
