Hopefully by now many of you have heard about the ham radio connection to the "Last Man Standing" TV show starring Tim Allen Tuesdays (tonight) at 8PM on ABC??
When the show was looking for a compact HF rotatable dipole for the rafters above the set for HF communications they contacted us. Their first choice was the H-422...but that antenna at 33 feet in length turned out to be too big to fit in the area above the set.
Second choice was the new Comet CHV-5X 40/20/15/10/6M dipole. At only 13 feet long, it fit perfectly in the limited space! http://www.cometantenna.com/products.php?CatID=1&famID=5&childID=6
Again, due to limited space when needing a 2M/440 dualbander for the set, the Comet GP-1 at 50 inches tall is up there as well for VHF and UHF communications.
Next, they needed to set the CHV-5X tuning stubs on each band to the right frequency range...and they chose the CAA-500 antenna analyzer for the job. In less than an hour the antenna was assembled, installed and tuned with low SWR within all 5 bands.
Hopefully you will see the CAA-500 on the ham station desk used on the show tonight. It is being used as a prop to prove the station on the set is a real station, using real amateur radio gear. Look at the attached photo, in the middle of the ham desk sits the CAA-500 analyzer. http://www.cometantenna.com/products.php?CatID=1&famID=10&childID=20
Future episodes will feature ham radio emergency communication capabilities in the plot line.
Tim Allen knows where to go for unique antennas to fit in tight installation areas, and to use the CAA-500 to quickly get the antenna tuned and ready for action!
Hope you enjoy the show, and let your friends know too!
