Latest in the saga.
I have now been able to make the SDR-14 work! I have used it direct and
on the IF outputs, like the 69.450 MHz out of the FT-2000. It certainly
has a wider bandwidth display than any of the other possibilities, but
of course at a much higher cost. I also have it working on my old
TS-850 with the 8.215 MHz IF out. The problems I had with the SDR-14
first were getting audio out using Brian's contesting computers. I
still couldn't get that to work, but installing drivers and software on
my computers, I can get audio demod too with the SDR-14. Anyway, I and
Q appear to be reversed and I can't figure that out. Almost all of the
other programs besides SpectraVue allow you to manually select I/Q
reverse, but I can't find this in SpectraVue or the SDR-14 set-up.
Also, the -10 and -30 dB gain settings don't allow a signal through.
The 0 and -20 setting work, but I would like to use -20 for the best
scaling, but can't. Maybe Brian or other SDR-14 users with more
experience can answer that for me. The relays click when you select any
of the four gain settings, but sigs come through only on 0 and -20 and
NOT on -10 or -30. What gives?
Also I have found that the first problem that I had with WU2X PowerSDR
IF edition is only in CW mode. That is very strange. It seems to work
perfectly in AM or SSB modes, but when you change it to CW, which
appears to only be a change of filter bandwidth to me, it starts
breaking up the audio and eventually locks up. Any help there would be
appreciated too. I know I need to get on that Yahoo group and ask the
question, but haven't gotten to it yet.
Scott brought me his K3/P3 for testing and comparison. It is certainly
easy to set up. Also nice to have a set-up that you can almost hold in
one hand compared to all the heavier radios and computer hardware I am
having to use to get to the same capability. There is much to be said
for the K3/P3 combo. I will report more later when I've had more time
to spend with it and comparing it to what else I'm doing.
So there you have the latest. Bob
