Guys,

Just thought I'd share with you what our results were and the fun we had operating as K2JB/R


We worked LIMITED-ROVER on 6, 144 and 432.  The 220FM crapped out on us or we would have had that band too.
We started the contest from EM85 on the Cherahola Skyway which just happen to be in two grids with elevations over 5200 ft.  With snow on the ground and 29 degrees, it was OK as long as the sun was shining.  When we moved to EM75, that overlook was in the shade, 21 degrees and had a 30 MPH wind but we had a good run there and after dark, we headed to Oak Ridge.  The next morning, we drove up to Buffalo Mtn at WindRock Park west of Oak Ridge and operated from EM76.  We could hear other stations working W4NH from there but we could not hear you.  At 11:30 we packed up and headed to Grandmother Mtn, Near Grandfather Mtn, NC.  We operated 6 and 2 on the road and were able to operate from EM86 along the way.  Once on Grandmother, we operated from EM96 til dark.  We had planned on working from EM95 but a low air pressure alarm on the truck spooked us to go find an air compressor and spoiled that grid.

We ended up with 144 QSO points, 14 grids worked from 5 grids for a total claimed score of 2733 which should put us in the top ten nation-wide for LIMITED-ROVER and hopefully top score for ROANOKE.  For a first-time rover in the Jan contest, we were very pleased.  We are already thinking of what to do better for the next rover.


Thanks so much for helping us.  We were very happy to get W4NH in he log 6 times from EM85 and EM75.
