And we wonder why they don’t fix up the place so the Hamvention has a better place !!!

Karen Wampler does make a good point about the downtown conference and convention centers that were built and supported via government grant money and on going “penny sales taxes” while the Hara Arena is a privately owned venue that follows the usual “Profit & Loss” business model.  Ever since Dayton lost the Dayton Gems hockey team that played at Hara Arena, the Wampler family has struggled to keep the Hara Arena facility in the black.

And now there’s frequent talk about the Montgomery Co. Fairgrounds on the south side of Dayton being sold and a new fairgrounds (complete with multiple modern buildings and huge parking facilities) may be built north of the Hara Arena in a part of the county near the airport and I-70. Rumor has it that the new fairgrounds would be designed and built to accommodate different large activities there,  and not just the annual county fair.

If that happens, you KNOW that DARA would certainly have to look at moving Hamvention there eventually.
