Well…how about that !!!  I never thought it would move out of Montgomery Co. but the place they have chosen will be nice !!  I have been there before a couple of times and it is very larger in size.

The Green Co. fairgrounds are quite a bit larger (30+ acres) than the Montgomery Co. fairgrounds and the buildings and facilities are a lot newer than the Dayton Fairgrounds because when they rebuilt the Xenia fairgrounds after the Xenia tornado in the 1970s they did it with Conventions and Expos in mind.

The drive to these fairgrounds is going to be just about the same distance from the Dayton Mall area as you drove up to Hara each day. Instead of driving up I-75 you will simply take I-675 to the east.  But, it will certainly be a longer drive for me from the Germantown area where I stay on the farm.

There will be plenty of general parking and most of it will be a lot closer than they had it at Hara….

The downside I can see is that the flea market will most likely be on grass areas like Shelby….unless they can offer under roof areas in the livestock barns, which are also very nice, by the way.

The other downside I see is that due to it being a fairground, most likely beer sales (and other consumption rules that go with adult beverages on fairgrounds) will not take place.

But anyhow…….this could have been a LOT worse. And, I don’t see this being a long term move, once Montgomery Co. makes their move for a completely new fairgrounds and big Conference Center away from downtown Dayton and closer to the airport.

The new location has been announced.  Just got this from a co-worker in our Dayton office:

Ron, do you know anything about this place?

If the new joint has better plumbing, and most importantly, better sewers, then it'll get my attention.

I was thankful that we were uphill, and not downwind from the crapcano that erupted in the boneyard a few years back.

I was carrying a parts of a TA-33Jr and taking the long-path around Lemon James when I had to fjord the stream.

They are closing it before it falls down. I am glad they are moving out of that dump, but they could move to somewhere worse. I can just imagine them taking over the old Salem Mall. We’ll have to take a sling blade to the hamfest spot in the parking lot.

Dayton Hamvention® 2017 News Update

The Dayton Amateur Radio Association (DARA) regrets to inform our many vendors, visitors and stakeholders that, unfortunately, HARA has announced the closing of their facility.  We have begun execution of our contingency plan to move Hamvention® 2017 to a new home.

DARA and Hamvention® have enjoyed many successful years working together with HARA Arena and we wish the Wampler family the best.

DARA and Hamvention® have been working on a contingency plan in the event HARA would become unavailable. We have spent many hours over the last few years evaluating possible locations and have found one in the area we believe will be a great new home! Due to logistics and timing issues, we will make a formal announcement introducing our new partner. This information will be coming soon. We all believe this new venue will be a spectacular place to hold our beloved event. Please rest assured we will have the event on the same weekend and, since it will be in the region, the current accommodations and outside events already planned for Hamvention 2017 should not be affected.

We look forward to your continued support as we move to a new future with The Dayton Hamvention®.
