Reminds me of a story a read about Neal Armstrong.  When he first saw a mock up of the LEM controls there were switches and gauges everywhere by the hundreds.  He asked the engineers how he was supposed to fly this thing?  He pointed at a switch and asked what is that for?  They told him that it was for xyz but he shouldn't touch it.  His response was if I am not supposed to touch it why the hell is it there?  By the time he was through with his design review half of the switches and gauges had been removed making for a much simpler spacecraft to fly.  Moral of the story.  If there is something we aren't supposed to touch put tape on it.
