Good afternoon,

Overview --

Several rounds of showers and thunderstorms will affect north and central Georgia through Sunday evening.  While the overall severe threat remains low - with respect to coverage and magnitude of severe weather - conditions are still favorable for localized areas of damaging winds, hail up to 1", heavy rainfall and frequent cloud to ground lightning.

NOTE:  The severe threat across the area could ramp up late tonight into Sunday as stronger winds aloft interact with more organized disturbances kicking across the area ahead of the main "front".  The area remains under a MARGINAL to SLIGHT severe weather risk (Level 1 - 2 out of 5 from SPC) - see graphics below.

Primary Storm Threats & Impacts --

  • Heavy rain that could lead to localized flash flooding, especially over areas that see multiple rounds of rain/storms through Sunday
    • Creeks and small streams will likely respond quickly due to the heavy rain and excessive runoff leading to Flood Warnings tonight and Sunday
  • Damaging wind gusts > 60 MPH (not expected to be widespread)
  • Hail up to 1"
  • Frequent cloud to ground lightning

NOTE:  Can't rule out a brief tornado with this event but conditions are not very favorable for tornadoes with this system

Timing / Locations --

  • Between this afternoon and Sunday evening (early), just about all of north and central GA will be impacted by the showers and thunderstorms

Graphic #1 -- SPC Day 1 outlook (through 8AM Sunday) **part of area could be bumped up to SLIGHT risk - for late tonight**

Graphic #2 -- SPC Day 2 outlook (Sunday-Sunday night):
