This was a bit confusing for me. At first I thought they wanted to let another station (single op) operate and log the Qs in the multi multi log. That isn’t legit. First it breaks the “all transmitters must be inside a 1000 foot circle” rule. Probably some others. Then I read it again and I then concluded that the transmitter was located at the multi multi location and he wanted a way for the remote operator to log. That is legit and folks are contesting like that now. I had suggested that we consider doing that for the June contest. I was thinking that we could setup a VPN that would allow us to run N1MM on a PC at each of our homes but all the PCs would be on the same virtual network. Bill suggested that instead of that just have all the PCs physically at Bobs location and then we remotely control the PC. Either way it was decide that we would just stick with the club competition idea. Anyway, the internet with VPNs, ability to remotely operate PCs and transmitters, etc. is certainly changing things quickly.

Actually I find this very interesting.  It quickly leads to the question, were is the Multi-Multi located.?  Maybe we could get some guys in Ne England to join W4NH and helps us run up the score!  Just kidding but it is a bit of a stretch of the imagination.  Note this isn't the club competition  we have been talking about.  Rather, this would have us all in our homes, not in Bob's shack, using a common log and all using W4NH as the call.  If I have followed all of this correctly that is pretty interesting stuff.

It sounds like you have a multi-op contest site LAN with multiple stations. You want to add a distant station to the existing site LAN. This is a subject that has been much-discussed in the past week, and there was a Zoom teleconference regarding some aspects of distributed networking last Thursday.
  • Yes, this can be done
  • There are several ways to accomplish it
  • The distributed multi-op landscape is changing and you decide how close to technology's bleeding edge you want to live
