Listed in the subject tax list was Hooper, Edmund, Elizabeth, James, 
William, Joseph, Thomas, Nancy, Richard and the most surprising name 
appears to be WM J. OBADIAH HOOPER.  I printed this out at 200% and it 
appears correct.  Has anyone else noticed this, is this name correct 
and what do you make of it?  You can find these records at

Hello all,

To date 43 Hooper men have participated in and received results in the Hooper 
family DNA project. Nine distinct Hooper lineages are represented. So far all 
the participants have been from the U.S.

Because of the way that the DNA is inherited only males are able to 
participate. Moreover only males with an unbroken male only Hooper line can 
participate. As a general rule, men with the last name Hooper.
It is possible to test your line even if you aren't a male Hooper. My own 
Hooper lineage is on the maternal side of my family. I got a cousin to take the 
test to prove our Hooper relationship from our ancestor Jesse Hooper (born 
1758). Co-opting brothers, fathers, cousins, etc to test your own line is always 
an option.
Be sure and visit the results page for the project by using the link from the 
DNA page mentioned above.
It may also be possible to get a free test kit. Details on this are available

Have a question I guess reg: how to go about land in Cherokee, I'm right now in the process of gathering info. for Cherokee Nation, there are quite a few surnames that we have in family that are Native American.  I come from the Dr. Enos C. Hooper line, another question I notice on his headstone that he was in the Indian Wars, can you by any chance tell me which one it was?

Naomi, thanks for responding, well that's messed up that he was in the removal of the Indian Wars, I'm not to up on my history as I'd like to be but if I'm not mistaken the removal wasn't wanted or is this relocation your speaking of for good reason or was it the trail of tears?  Anyway that's the way things were back then, I don't know anybody of the Hooper line to do DNA testing, wish I could be of some help.  Oh, & yes I've been in touch w/Karen off & on, thanks. I apologize for being behind on some recent updates - however, I think 
I've got the DNA info current again.  Updates made today include:

1)  Messages from Wade page has been updated to include his latest report.
2)  Unique Haplotypes has been updated to current.
3)  Joseph - 1770 has been moved from page 2 on the DNA Table to page 1 
as the results now indicate with 2 mutations to be linked to John - 1783 
group.  The FTDNA company has changed it's stand to include 2 mutations 
as being acceptable in considering a match (instead of just 1 as before) 
by the research of the University of Arizona - which makes Joseph a 
match with John.
4)  Abraham - 1826 has been added to page 2 of the DNA Table.

If any of the pages do not reflect these additions or changes, please 
"refresh" or "reload" your page and see if that makes the difference.

If anyone is having a Hooper Family Reunion and their information is not 
yet on the Reunions page on the website, please feel free to send me the 
info and I'll get it on the website.  Also, Wade has prepared a 2 page 
paper that could be printed out and handed out at any Hooper Reunion to 
help folks understand how the DNA Project works.  By using the handout, 
you could be instrumental in recruiting others to participate and not 
have to get up and make the presentation yourself.

I made a mistake in looking at DNA results for Participant # 8184. 
 There are 3 mutations from the John group, so unfortunately there's not 
a match after all.  Consequently, Joseph of 1770 has moved back to page 
2 on the DNA Table.  Sorry for the mix up.  Be sure to refresh your 
pages to see the change.  Clay

In the article by Marie Wilson, there are three Hooper families 
mentioned as early settlers at Paul's Store community est. 1851;  James 
Monroe and Annie Wiliams Hooper, Jim and Adrian Hooper and a John 
Hooper who was the barber.  Does anyone know who his John Hooper was?

Ancestry listed a database recently that included Henry Hooper who spent many years in the Assembly (from the Lower House representing Dorchester County)--from late in 1600 through mid 1700s.  
Anyone descend from him or have any notion who does?
