Dear Mr. Baumgardner:
The search was limited in success. Obadiah Hooper and Mascilva (sic)
Hooper are listed among the 55 male and 53 female charter members of
Meherrin Baptist Church, Lunenburg County, Virginia, November 27-28,
1771. During the business meeting held on Sunday, January 26, 1772,
the church appointed Obadiah Hooper and several other members "to go
and deal with Bro. William Embry and cite him to appear at our
monthly meetings..." On June 20-21, 1775, Obadiah Hooper and Marulva
(sic) Hooper are among the thirty-six members of Meherrin desirous of
forming a district church. The church "Proceeded to the business. The
following names were dismissed and given up and pronounced a Church."
The Society regrets that it does not have records or any real history
of the Hickory Run Meeting Place. the Hooper names do not appear
after the dismissal noted in 1775.
Sincerely,
Darlene Slater Herod
