Motlow of Tullahoma, TN dated 28 Dec 1942; enclosed was a picture of an old colonial clock. He stated it was known as the ?Monroe clock? passed down through Nancy?s family. He also said that Nancy was a cousin of President James Monroe. (Conjecture: It is possible that Obediah?s mother was a Monroe, since so many of the second and 3rd generation were already named Monroe before James Monroe became president). Nancy Hooper was the daughter of Obediah Hooper born 1720-27 in Hanover County, VA. Another connection we need to explore. We cannot find a direct connection to the Hurt family until James Hooper, Sr. (1746-1836) married Elizabeth Chambers, daughter of Thomas Chambers (1722-1798) and Millicent Hurt (1736-1796). We believe this connection goes much further back to the Hurt family in the same area as early as 1650.
