Well - Joseph made another appearance and picked up where he left
off from last January. When the control op was finally getting a
little tired, I asked Joseph if he had worked enough stations.
He compared the number of log sheets filled in to January and decided
there were enough QSOs in the log. This guy is a natural born
contester! I would say he made about 50 QSOs - with more than
half of them being OFs.
He did a much better job tuning the radio for himself. I am having
to teach him about suggested frequencies as tuned down to about
14.200 on one occasion.
He isn't shy at all about calling CQ.
Another operator for the first time was Sarah - age 3 (just barely).
She initially froze during an attempted QSO, but found her voice
enough to say hello to "another Sarah" at K6XX. Then K6XX's Sarah's
sister Lisa worked my Sarah for what might be the youngest QSO
ever (when adding the years of the two operators together) = 7
years.
Theresa (the seven year old) had a busy day and didn't take advantage
of her only opportunity to get on the air. Rebecca (age 5) did get
on the air for awhile - but it was hard to get the microhone out of
Joseph's hands! I bought a code tape for Joseph yesterday...
Yes - activity did seem light compared to January. Did everyone get
their certificates from January? I had sent them out a couple of
weeks before the event - there were about 100 of them, and I thought
it would help bring people back.
Perhaps summer is just a busy time for this sort of thing and it
plays better in the winter. I imagine a cover shot on QST won't
hurt either.
I will (or maybe N9JF) put together a list of who was on the air
soon for people to review. Perhaps if I get the list to Greg
quicker than I did last time, we won't have to wait so long for
the wallpaper.
Maybe I will invite Joseph over for a little Field Day action.
