We didn't have a whole lot of time, but Billy was eager to make some
QSOs.
He has never spoken a syllable on the radio before so he was a little
nervous at first. After a sandwich break, he was much more comfortable.
I guess he needed a break to regain his composure. I remember the
feeling
from MY first QSO. I needed to regain MY composure too!
He was hesitant to work N5XU because "she's a grown-up and this contest
is
for kids!" I assured him it was OK! He had to fill out QSL cards right
away, so all six can expect a K3PP card.
He didn't want to leave when I had to take him home. I think the little
guy swallowed the bait. He's bugging his daddy (Bill, WB3IHF) to work
on
getting his own license. Dad and uncle guarantee we'll work with him.
The event appears to have had its intended effect on the boy!
