Hello the following is log from WN2G
2300Z N9NUQ Robert 41 Blue Chicago on 28.345MHz
2350Z N4LRA Bill 51 Blue Dumphries,VA on 145.270MHz
Children operating from WN2G
Robert III 8 Green Mobile Fredericksburg,VA
Christiana J 5 Blue Mobile Fredericksburg,VA
Please note.. The first "contact" my kids received after calling CQ
on clear frequencies on 10M was from a member of the Ten-Ten club who
did not ID with his call but with a 10-10 club number and state that
we should have asked if we could use the frequency first prior to
calling CQ. I was unable to copy his number, we did listen first on
the frequency and heard no operation. This is a very poor intro to
Ham radio from someone who obviously should not be on the radio! We
made effort to stay within the recommended frequencies for the Kids
day of 28350 to 28400. This "ham" was in the area of 28375.
I am sending a copy of this to the officer of Ten-Ten. I know there
are poor operators on all frequencies, but reactions like this to our
children and the future of amateur radio should be eliminated. The
Ten-Ten club has lost a potential member and my respect. The Ten-Ten
club members should be reminded that their club member number does
not legally count toward ID in the amateur bands. It is no wonder
young operators do not have any interest in joining our hobby!
My son has been actively studying for his license and did not want to
continue the contest after that hams reaction to his CQ Kid's Day.
If there are any questions please reply.
I hope we are able to more fully participate next year, we were
involved in some family activities until approximately 2250Z
yesterday evening preventing our joining the contest until 2300Z.
